SAT Prep

Our SAT Program prepares students for overcoming the challenge of the exam. Our program is comprehensive, underscoring the fundamentals as well as the more complex areas of each subject. This preparation program also helps students access and understand the ways in which questions are presented on the tests.

Students have a choice of individual sessions or they may participate in small group settings. The advantages of each approach are: one-on-one sessions allow for more focused time on each student’s individual needs in each area; small groups allow students to help and learn from each other, ask questions and learn from each other’s questions, examples, and shared experiences. Groups have only three or four students, so each student still receives individual attention from the instructor.

Academic Success is an independent, privately owned tutoring center, which allows us to create a learning environment that meets the specific needs of each student. Therefore, if a student requires more focused attention in one area, such as math, he or she may choose to attend only math sessions; or if he or she needs more work on essay writing or vocabulary-building skills, he or she may opt for only the verbal/writing sessions. Many students find that attending both sessions helps them improve their scores dramatically.

The SAT Program is a forty-two hour program comprised of twenty-six hours of instruction and four, four-hour practice exams. In order to maximize the learning experience, we highly encourage students to begin the program at least nine weeks before they are scheduled to take the SAT. By starting early, students are able to cover all of the exercises and practice tests; this amount of time allows them the opportunity to dramatically improve their test scores. However, we are able to tailor our program to shorter time periods, and students will still benefit greatly.

Tutoring for the SAT also improves students’ grades at school. Our program reinforces the basics of each subject, and allows students to strengthen their overall performance in each subject. Since college admission boards look at school grades as well as SAT scores, many students find that starting tutoring early helps them with both grades and exam scores.

Tutoring in each of the programs we offer at Academic Success during all school years improves students’ grades and increases their chances of acceptance by the college of their choice. Our tutoring sessions and SAT preparation classes are mutually beneficial to students.
